Specialist Program
Program Overview
The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
Host Institutions - The Fulbright Specialist Program allows overseas universities, cultural centers, non-governmental organizations and other institutions abroad to develop collaborative projects which host a leading U.S. academic or professional at their institution to work on diverse, short-term collaborative projects focused on education and training. These projects support critical priorities identified by the host institutions and supported by U.S. embassies and binational Fulbright Commissions abroad.

The program of work for a Fulbright Specialist’s visit may include activities such as lecturing to undergraduate or graduate students; professional consultations and advising; participation in workshops, symposia or conferences; development and/or evaluation of academic curricula or educational materials; etc. The program does not fund research.
The World Learning Organization in the United States builds a roster of U.S. specialists in a variety of fields through an open application process. Fulbright Israel selects five project proposals from Israeli organizations for a Specialist Program to be forwarded to the World Learning Organization. Israeli institutions can make either an open application for a specialist in a given field or request a specific person from the Fulbright Specialists roster. American scholars have to be accepted to the Fulbright Specialist roster to be considered for the Fulbright Specialist Program.

Grant Benefits
Stipend
The program provides the specialist with round trip airfare (tourist class) and a $200/day honorarium.
Special Awards and Benefits
This is a cost-share program where in-country hospitality (lodgings, meals, in-country transportation) is provided by the Israeli host institution/s, according to terms agreed in direct contacts between the program fellow and the institution/s concerned.

Evaluation criteria
Because of the limited total number of visits to Israel available, Fulbright Israel does not support requests for multiple visits by a single Fulbright Specialist or requests to host more than one Specialist at the same event (conference, symposium, etc.).
FAQ
Will I be at a disadvantage if I have studied previously in Israel?
Yes. While applicants who have had a previous Israel experience may receive awards, preference will be given to applicants without such experience.
May my spouse apply for a Fulbright grant at the same time that I apply?
Yes.
