Fulbright Israel fellows share their experiences

My 20 month experience at the Weizmann Institute of Science  was not only beneficial for my professional development, but also led to satisfying work. The facilities and infrastructure at the Institute were highly conducive to pursuing my research aims. Outside the lab, I loved spending time in a young, resilient country. Fulbright Israel was a great resource while living here, and I will miss the staff and the community of visiting scholars they manage to continually build!

The contagious energy and passion for medicine surrounding me transcends language barriers and cultural differences and has reinforced my calling to the medical profession. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone to apply to Fulbright Israel — to experience the richness of this vibrant country, to grow as a person, and to be a part of something truly transformative. It has been an absolute privilege to conduct a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship in Israel. Fulbright's support has allowed me to pursue organic chemistry research at the Technion, gaining both scientific experience and an increased level of cultural understanding, rendering my postdoctoral studies important both professionally and personally. The many events planned by the Fulbright office have provided a “home away from home,” enriching my experience and providing an excellent networking opportunity. I would highly recommend this opportunity to any interested American researcher.

Being in this new environment has given me the opportunity to adapt my research to a broader context and make use of diverse perspectives. As I’ve had to adjust to life in the U.S., my research continues to evolve with each new challenge, becoming more meaningful to the communities I study. Learn more.

Pursuing a PhD means becoming a subject-matter expert on a set of closely related specialty topics, but identifying critical knowledge gaps during this process is arguably just as important in the long term. As it quickly became clear when my advisor’s closest collaborator from Ben-Gurion visited Arizona as a colloquium speaker, coming to Israel was the best path forward to close such gaps in my own education. The annual meeting of Israeli Fulbright fellows, held at the Science Museum in Boston, was an amazing opportunity to reconnect with friends and meet the inspiring individuals in this year's cohort.
